Overview
You can add terms and usage restrictions to your gift cards to set clear expectations with clients before purchase. Terms appear in three places: your online store, the shopping cart, and the client's email receipt.
You can set terms at two levels:
Gift card terms apply to all gift cards and cover general policies like refund or exchange rules.
Bonus terms apply to a specific gift card bonus and cover promotion-specific rules like purchase limits or stacking restrictions.
Each terms field supports up to 200 characters.
Before you start
You need Provider Owner access in Moxie.
Gift cards must be enabled in your Services & Products settings.
Add terms to your gift cards
Select Settings from the left menu.
Select Services & Products.
Select Gift cards.
Select Edit next to the Gift card amounts section.
Scroll down in the right panel to the Terms & usage restrictions toggle and turn it on.
Enter your terms in the Terms text field. You have up to 200 characters.
Select Save.
A confirmation message confirms your gift card settings were saved.
π‘ Tip: Keep your terms short and specific. For example: "Gift cards are non-refundable and cannot be exchanged for cash or credit."
Add terms to a gift card bonus
You can also add separate terms to individual gift card bonuses. This is useful when a promotion has its own restrictions, like a purchase limit or an exclusion from other offers.
Select Settings from the left menu, and then select Services & Products.
Select Gift cards.
Find the bonus you want to edit under Gift card bonuses and select the more options menu (three dots).
Select Edit.
In the Edit bonus panel, scroll down to the Terms & usage restrictions toggle and turn it on.
Enter your bonus-specific terms in the Terms text field. You have up to 200 characters.
Select Save changes.
π‘ Tip: Use bonus terms to communicate promotion-specific rules. For example: "Limit one gift card per customer. Cannot be combined with any other promotions, discounts, or offers."
Where clients see your terms
Once saved, your terms appear automatically in three places:
Online store gift card modal: When a client selects Buy a gift card, your gift card terms display in an expandable Terms & usage restrictions section. If a bonus applies, its terms appear in a tooltip near the bonus badge.
Shopping cart: Your gift card terms appear in the cart under Terms & usage restrictions. Bonus terms appear in a tooltip when the client hovers over the bonus tag.
Email receipt: The client's gift card confirmation email includes a Gift card terms & usage restrictions section with your general terms. If a bonus was applied, a separate Bonus terms & usage restrictions section appears below it.
βοΈ Note: Terms display to clients on the online store and in the email receipt. If you update your terms, the changes apply to future purchases. Existing gift card receipts aren't updated.
β Important: Terms are informational only. Moxie displays them to clients but does not enforce them at checkout. For example, if your terms say "Limit one gift card per customer," the system won't prevent a client from purchasing multiple gift cards. You're responsible for monitoring and enforcing any restrictions you set.
Frequently asked questions
Can I set different terms for different gift card amounts? No. Gift card terms apply to all gift card amounts and custom range values. If you need promotion-specific restrictions, add terms to individual bonuses instead.
Is there a character limit? Yes. Each terms text field allows up to 200 characters.
Do clients have to accept the terms before purchasing? No. Terms are displayed for the client's review before and after purchase, but there's no acceptance checkbox.
Does Moxie enforce the restrictions I enter? No. Terms are display-only. The system won't block a purchase that conflicts with your terms. For example, a "one per client" restriction won't prevent a client from buying multiple gift cards. You'll need to monitor and enforce any restrictions on your own.
What if I turn off the terms toggle after saving? Turning off the toggle removes the terms from the online store and future email receipts. Previously sent receipts aren't affected.
Can I add terms to a bonus that's already active? Yes. Select the more options menu (three dots) on the bonus card, select Edit, enable the Terms & usage restrictions toggle, enter your terms, and select Save changes.
