When your deposit type is set to Different deposits for services, every service starts at your default deposit amount. Use this article to override that amount for an individual service, such as raising the deposit on a long device-based treatment or removing it from consultations. Service deposits are set in the service create and edit drawer in your service menu.
✏️ Note - Deposits must be turned on in Settings, then Feature management, with the deposit type set to Different deposits for services. See Set up deposits in feature management for the steps.
Set a custom deposit for a service
1. Go to Settings, then Services & Products, then Service menu.
2. Select the service you want to change then click edit, or select Add new service to create one.
3. In the drawer, confirm Require a deposit for this service is checked. The checkbox is checked by default when you've set a default deposit amount.
4. Enter the amount in the Deposit amount field. The field prefills with your default amount; replace it with the custom amount for this service.
5. Save the service.
❗ Important - A service deposit cannot be higher than your maximum deposit amount. If you see an error while saving, raise the maximum in your Deposits configuration first, then save the service.
Turn off the deposit for a service
1. Open the service in your service menu.
2. Uncheck Require a deposit for this service.
3. Save the service.
Patients booking this service pay no deposit for it. When the service is booked together with other services, it contributes nothing to the deposit total when using the Different deposits for services deposit configuration.
Review deposits across your service menu
The service menu table includes a Deposit column so you can review every service's deposit at a glance:
Services with a custom amount show that amount.
Services using your default show the default amount.
Services with the deposit turned off show Not required.
Sort or filter the column to find services with no deposit or to compare amounts. The column is hidden when the Deposits feature is off.
Each service's details page also shows a price with deposit indicator. Hover over the information icon next to it for a breakdown of the deposit that applies to the service.
How service deposits affect what patients pay
When a patient books one service, they pay that service's deposit. When they book multiple services, the deposit is the sum of each selected service's deposit, excluding any services with the deposit turned off. If the sum exceeds your maximum deposit amount, the patient is charged the maximum instead. The same calculation applies whether the patient books online or your team books the appointment in Moxie Suite.
✏️ Note - With a flat deposit type, individual services cannot have their own amounts and the appointment has a single deposit amount added. Switch to Different deposits for services in your Deposits configuration to set per-service amounts that are added independently of one another.
FAQs
Why can't I edit the deposit on my service?
Your deposit type is likely set to Flat deposit amount, which charges one amount per appointment and does not support per-service customization. To set amounts per service, change the deposit type to Different deposits for services in Settings, then Feature management. If the deposit type is already correct, confirm you have permission to edit service menu items.
Why won't my service deposit amount save?
The amount is likely higher than your maximum deposit amount. Raise the maximum in your Deposits configuration, then save the service again.
A patient is booking a service with no deposit alongside one that has a deposit. What are they charged?
Only the services with a deposit count. For example, if a $100 deposit service is booked with a no-deposit consultation, the patient pays $100 deposit.
If I change my default deposit amount in deposit configuration, what happens to my custom service amounts?
Nothing changes without your confirmation. Changing the default opens a prompt with three options that let you keep custom amounts, update only the services on the old default, or reset everything. See Set up deposits in Feature management for what each option does.
