What to expect on your bookkeeping onboarding call
Your onboarding call sets up your bookkeeping so your books, reports, and payroll records stay accurate from the start. Use this article to see what your bookkeeping team will cover and what to have ready.
Share your bookkeeping goals
Your bookkeeping team starts by understanding what you want bookkeeping to do for you, whether that's clean books for tax time, better visibility into profitability, or having it off your plate.
Connect your bank accounts
Your bookkeeping team walks through your business bank accounts with you and connects them inside Moxie Bookkeeping. During this step, you'll also get a tour of the platform:
Overview page: Where your financial data populates as bookkeeping gets started
Reports tab: Where your monthly financials live
Bank transactions tab: Where your accounts connect and where questions from your bookkeeping team appear
Review your current bookkeeping
Your bookkeeping team asks about what you've been doing for bookkeeping up to this point and when your books were last reconciled. If prior months need to be brought up to date, your bookkeeping team walks you through the catch-up bookkeeping option so you can start with a clean set of books.
Confirm your business structure
Your bookkeeping team confirms your legal entity type, including your S-Corp election if applicable, to make sure everything is set up correctly.
Review payroll
Your bookkeeping team asks whether you have employees or contractors, whether they're W-2 or 1099, and which payroll system you use. Your bookkeeping team requests read-only access to that system so payroll is recorded correctly in your books.
Review loans and financing
If your business has loans or equipment financing, your bookkeeping team asks for the amortization schedule or monthly statement so each payment is recorded accurately.
Clarify personal vs. business expenses
If you use a personal card or account for business purchases, your bookkeeping team sets up a simple way to capture those: send a photo of the receipt to your bookkeeping text line. This keeps owner draws, contributions, and transfers clear and accurate.
Walk through recent transactions
Your bookkeeping team spends a few minutes reviewing recent transactions with you, including recurring expenses like rent, so your transactions are categorized correctly and future back-and-forth is reduced.
Set up direct text support
Your bookkeeping team confirms the best number for your bookkeeping text line. This is your direct line to the team for questions, receipt photos, and updates throughout the month. Save it in your phone so you always know it's your bookkeeping team.
Know what happens after your call
Throughout the month, reviews and categorizes your transactions.
If we need anything from you, they'll text you, usually just a couple of times a month.
Within one week of month-end, your financial reports are ready in your dashboard, and your bookkeeping team will text you to let you know.
At year-end, your bookkeeping team provides a full tax packet for your accountant.
💡 Tip: Have a question before your call, or something on your mind about your books? Reach out any time. No question is too small.
